In April 2019, at the age of 45, I was diagnosed with advanced cardiovascular disease. This came as a complete shock—despite living an active life, eating well, feeling fit, and never struggling with weight, my medical reality told a different story. My diagnosis was complex but, unfortunately, not uncommon. I was pre-diabetic, had dangerously high inflammation levels, significant arterial plaque buildup, and a host of genetic predispositions that put me at risk for heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, high cholesterol, and even Alzheimer’s.
As a passionate long-distance and mountain runner, I had always seen myself as strong, fit, and healthy. The diagnosis shattered that identity. I felt devastated, confused, and like a stranger in my own body. How could this be possible? I had done everything “right” according to conventional health wisdom. Fear consumed me—would I live to see my kids graduate? Walk my daughters down the aisle? Celebrate my 50th birthday? Continue living the life I loved?
You may not relate to the fear of heart disease, but you’ve likely felt the fear of being marginalized, the fear of losing autonomy, the fear of not being truly seen or loved, or the fear of losing your sense of purpose.
This experience forced me to reexamine my understanding of health—not just physical health, but also emotional and spiritual well-being. I made small but intentional changes to my diet, prioritized quality sleep and daily movement, and focused on nurturing relationships that offered support without judgment or shame.
It took me years to realize that moments of fear, uncertainty, and discomfort are actually gifts. They force us to pause, reflect, and gain clarity on what truly matters. My goal is to help guide you through this process—to help you uncover the meaning rising within you, waiting to be set free. To rediscover your purpose, regain your sense of control, and embrace a life of deeper fulfillment.
